You need to navigate **eReassign**, understand the **Lock-In Period**, and potentially find a **Mutual Swap**.

## **The Golden Rules: 12 vs 18 Months**

Before you can transfer using eReassign, you must serve a specific "lock-in" period as a career employee.

1.  **The 18-Month Rule:** If you are transferring to an office **working within your current district** (or an adjacent district), you must wait **18 months** from your conversion date.
2.  **The 12-Month Rule:** If you are transferring to an office **outside** your district (far away), the wait is only **12 months**.

## **eReassign: The Waitlist System**

eReassign is the portal on LiteBlue where you put in your request.
*   **It is First-Come, First-Served:** When a transfer spot opens at the target office, they look at the eReassign list. If you requested it 2 years ago and someone else requested it 1 year ago, you win.
*   **Put in Requests EARLY:** You can submit a request *before* your lock-in period ends, but the effective date must be after you are eligible.
*   **Attendance Matters:** The receiving office looks at your safety and attendance record. If you have banged in sick every Monday for the last year, they can deny your transfer.

## **Mutual Swaps: The Loophole**

Don't want to wait? You can try a **Mutual Exchange**.
This is where you find a carrier (typically in the same craft) in the city you want to go to, who wants to come to *your* city.
*   **The Benefit:** It bypasses the eReassign queue in some cases.
*   **The Risk:** You usually take the **lower seniority** of the two. If you have 20 years and swap with a guy who has 2 years, you might become the 2-year seniority carrier at the new station for bidding purposes.

## **Canvas (Clerks & Mail Handlers)**

For Clerks and Mail Handlers, there is sometimes a "Canvas" sheet for vacancies within a bid cluster. Keep an eye on the bulletin board. This is local movement, not national transfer.
